AKS Cow Brand Colour Coated Steel's quality assurance team performs extensive tests using the latest technology to ensure our products meet the specifications of International Standards and of our clients.

Test performed:

Coating Thickness – To determine and monitor the coating thickness, applied on the steel for top and bottom side.

Specular Gloss Measurement – Gloss is associated with the capacity of a surface to reflect light in one direction compared to others.

Colour Test – Determines the deviation of the colour of the cured organic coating, from a standard sample.

Solvent Rubbing Test – Determines the extent of curing of the baked organic coat.

Impact Test – Determines the resistance to cracking of an organic coating on a metallic substrate.

Cupping Test – Determines the formability of the organic coating on a metallic substrate.

T-Bend Test – Evaluates the flexibility and adhesion to the metallic substrate of the organic coating.

Pencils Hardness Test – Determines the bond strength between the organic coating and the metallic substrate.

Cross Hatch Test – Determines the inner coat adhesion (Top coat to primer bond).

Scratch Test – Determines the resistance of an organic coating to penetration, by scratching with a needle.

Salt Spray Test – This is an accelerated corrosion test which simulates the field condition.

Surface correction:

The surface correction mill is installed in the coating line which will provide the following –

§  Improvement in metallurgical properties in order to eliminate fluting-lines.

§  Improved surface quality and flatness for the preparation of painting.

Tension leveling unit:

In this stage, the shape of the substrate is corrected through unique effects of stretch and load, to get the uniform painting.

Cleaning Section:

This will remove mill oils, soluble contaminants and general dirt from the strips. The cleaning action is done by a system of high velocity caustic solution sprays, which are arranged to ensure a complete coverage of the strip. Additionally brush scrubbers are provided in the line, which will remove surface contamination such as passivation, iron fines and heavy mill oil from the strip. After alkali cleaning hot water rinse tank is used to remove excess alkali solution from the strips, followed by cold water rinse tank for removing any residual alkali solution. This rinse utilizes de-mineralized water for extra cleanliness.

Chemical bonding section:

Specially formulated chromic chemical is applied on the substrate, using high technology coating application method by a chemical coater. The chemical treatment allows strong bond formation between the zinc coated steel substrate and the color coat.

Coating Section:

3-coat, 2-bake coating process is used. The 3 color coats are:

§  Primer

§  Back Coat

§  Top Coat

·Primer:

Generally primer can be applied on the top side of the sheet with special type PU (Polyurethane) primer to improve the corrosion performance of the final products.

·        Back Coat:

It is the single coat application at the reverse side of the strip as protection to the strip or as a service coat.

·        Top Coat:

The top coat is specially designed on polyester melamine system available in wide range of colours. It can be applied with different coating thickness as per the customer’s requirements. This polyester-melamine system will give good aesthetic look with excellent flexibility, hardness, adhesion and excellent durability performance like color and gloss retention.

Curing Section:

All the above mentioned coating systems are baked in uniform, clean air circulation catenary type ovens for specified temperature setting to achieve designed peak metal temperature (PMT).

We have four types of roll forming designs like U type, V type, cherry and trapezoidal profile.
